B.E./B.TECH.DEGREE INTERNAL EXAMINATIONS, OCT/NOV – 2011
REGULATIONS 2009
FIRST SEMESTER
ENGINEERING GRAPHICS
MECHANICAL ENGINEERING – B SECTION

Time: 3 Hours                                       Date: 10.10.2011                               Maximum: 50 marks
ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS
PART – A (5 x 10 = 50 marks)

1.      The end P of a line PQ is in the HP and 40 mm in front of the VP. The end Q is in the VP. The front View of the line makes an angle of 40° with the horizontal and has a length of 85 mm. Draw the projections of the line and find its true length and true inclinations with the HP and the VP. Also, locate its traces.
2.      A line RS, 80 mm long has its end R, 20 mm above the HP and 30 mm in front of the VP. The top and front views of the line have lengths of 50 mm and 65 mm respectively. Draw the projections of the line and find its true inclinations with the VP and the HP.
3.      The projection of a line measures 80 mm in plan and 70 mm in elevation. The mid point of the line is 45 mm infront of VP and 35 mm above HP. One end is 10 mm infront of VP and nearer to it. The other end is nearer to HP. Draw the projections of the line. Find the true length and true inclinations with XY.
4.      The vertex of a curve is 65 mm from its focus. Draw the curve if the eccentricity is 3/2. Draw the normal and tangent at a point on the curve.
5.      A fixed point is at 60 mm from a fixed straight line. Draw the curve when the eccentricity is 2/3. Name the curve. Draw the tangent and normal to the curve through a point P, which is at 65 mm from the straight line.
6.      A circle of 50 mm diameter rolls along a line. A point on the circumference of the circle is in contact with the line in the beginning and after one complete revolution. Draw the cycloidal path of the point. Draw a tangent and normal at any point on the curve.
